Newly released Tudor Black Bay Chrono “Panda”

Post by SoCal C4S » Sat Apr 10, 2021 6:57 am

Hey watch fam!!

Picked this up yesterday morning after a call from the AD. Was the first one they got, and I appreciated first dibs.

I am new to Tudor, so this is my first piece from them. Right off, I LOVE the Opaline white dial, which can show as light silver or gray, off-white or chalk, depending on the given light. The black bezel and sub-dials definitely even out the overall Panda look, which is another first for me. The case is 41mm plus the pushers, so it wears a bit larger than the new Submariner, but the fit and feel of it is very similar, with the case on this being a tad taller.

The movement winds easily when the crown is unscrewed to position 1, and feels like a Rolex movement when I am winding it. The date set is easy enough, and sets without resistance from position 2, and finally the time at position 3. I also love that the crown is a screw down, as do the Chrono pushers, and the overall water resistance on this is the same as a standard Submariner at 200m or 660ft.

The rivet bracelet and snowflake hour hand are nods to Tudor’s vintage roots, but I don’t dislike either enough to not wear this often. The bracelet is 22mm at the lugs, with the slightest taper to 20mm, and the clasp is the same as before. Overall, I find the bracelet to be very comfortable, but wish they had a simple micro-adjustment option like the new Rolex divers.

Congrats. It's way too big and chunky for me, but that's in line with the old big block models. I'm surprised how quickly these got delivered.

Looks good! Surprised they did rivets.
Did they throw in a fabric strap? Although I think they’ve stopped doing that.

Very cool, congrats. Definitely want to see one of these in the metal. How’s the legibility? Some of the pics make it look like the hands get lost in the dial.

No extra straps included. They offer 3 different options per dial: bracelet, nylon or a leather bund strap.

Surprisingly clear! The polished silver outline of the minute and hour hands make the legibility a non-issue, in my honest opinion.

That is really nice. Probably my favorite 2021 release from Tudor/Rolex.

Bracelet is the way to go. Although I just saw the bund strap. I may choose that. Reminds me of David Beckham for some reason.

Very cool! I have a call in to the AD for the black dial. Is it heavy? Compared to,say, a B’ling chrono?

I may see if they have the black dial when I stop in later today, and if so... ImageImage

It wears lighter than a SS Super Avenger or Colt auto, but is more in line with a Ti Chrono Avenger or Ti Seawolf. Feels about the same as the new Sub on bracelet, or my Ti PAM 562, which I only wear on rubber.

I took my wife’s ring in to a jeweler in Little Rock today for repair and they had two blacks in the case. One on the bracelet and one on the black strap.

I really wanted it, but i’m trying to downsize the collection. At some point i’ll probably get one.

Some 2 register chronos remind me of boob gap, mostly when the registers are small, like with the Tudor.
