Re: John Wick handing out Subs
Funny there is a big thread on r/Rolex debating this. Lots of people are chuffed that Keanu can get ahold of so many Rolex sport watches and refuse to believe that he could go direct to Rolex for this kind of thing..... I'm thinking his agent went direct to Rolex.
The internet LOVES Keanu, because by all accounts he is a super guy.... so of course Rolex would work with him.
Re: John Wick handing out Subs
My theory is he jumped into his phone booth time machine with Bill and went back to a time when subs were plentiful. Excellent!!!!dnslater wrote: ↑Thu Oct 28, 2021 1:36 pmFunny there is a big thread on r/Rolex debating this. If I’m Rolex and I get a call from the Keanu camp asking for help with gifts, I help.

Start at 1:49 in to the video. Russel Brand is annoying (but funny), watch Keanu's face...Im sure he's thinking "This guy is an idiot", but he stays cool

I'm trying to word this carefully so as to not incite a debate.
I will say I appreciate Keanu's commitment to learning firearms handling skills (which, from the YouTube video's I've seen of him training, included firearm safety training) and his ability to complete 4 fairly violent movies without actually killing anyone on set.
It is frustrating other actors are not similarly committed.

I assume you’re talking about Alec and the shooting, and I’ll be honest as I have not read enough on it (only an article or two) to know everything, but it seemed to me at least that the entire production was low budget and a shit show; some crew members walking off before the incident etc and I agree, if you are going to use a gun in scenes in a movie, you should have some knowledge of guns, even if it is just blanks, but also, the actors are props to carry out a story and there is a lot that goes into a production and that gun should have been checked and the production should be coherent about training the actor and others about guns and gun safety.Ryeguy wrote:I'm trying to word this carefully so as to not incite a debate.

I also read there were a lot of live ammo on the set which just boggles my mind. And I also wonder in this day and age why any gun needs bullets with all the cgi available these days. I mean, you can make iron man and the hulk look realistic and shoot photon blasts or whatever but we can’t cgi a gun to shoot? The new pixel phone can remove things in pics, like a whole tree you can remove out of a pic with your finger and a movie can’t take an empty gun and make it shoot bullets in post??
Sorry for the long reply.

Yes, I was referencing the Alec negligent discharge homicide situation, but I trying to frame it in a way that puts Keanu in a positive light.
I have no idea if Keanu is a gun enthusiast in his personal life, but he seems to have trained extensively under some experts where gun handling (including safe gun handling) was drilled into his head.
There are hundreds of other examples of movie productions using firearms as props in a safe manner. The "John Wick" series is just an over-the-top example given the number of shooting scenes in the films. There must have been diligent safety protocols in place for that production.
From all accounts, the "Rust" production was a complete shit-show. There were more violations of basic safety protocols than I could believe. Reportedly, some people walked off the set prior to the homicide due to safety concerns.
In my opinion, it isn't a technology problem (CGI, etc.), it is a responsibility problem. Every actor who handles a "prop" gun should be educated on how to ensure it is truly a "cold gun". How do you know it is empty? How do you know it is only a prop and not real? If you are going to point a gun at someone during a scene, you better be damn sure.
I'm sure the argument will be "this was the Director's job" but in my opinion, you can delegate tasks, not responsibility.
In my opinion, the "Rust" situation should result in criminal prosecution.

I don’t disagree with that. I don’t know exactly who all gets the blame as I wasn’t on set and the full investigation isn’t done, but with all that was going on at the production set and a woman dying and other injured, this better not be a slap on the wrist for anyone.Ryeguy wrote: In my opinion, the "Rust" situation should result in criminal prosecution.

Re: John Wick handing out Subs
It clearly was the director’s fault. However, one of the things the director was supposed to do was demonstrate the gun safe to Baldwin. That didn’t happen (director’s fault) but Alec knew what should have been done and still took the gun (Alec’s fault)and killed someone with it.
There is a lot of blame to go around.

Have you guys seen the so called armorer? I mean the whole thing is an incredibly sad cluster of incompetence, but one look at that hire, damn. She looks like a complete moron.
