You’re a credit to the forum Tom. This is the shittiest year of new watches from Rolex that I can ever recall.

The DSSD not getting a diver extension is a real kick in the nuts.

Wow, whats the point if theres no diver's extension. Ok, so it will probably rarely/never get used. But, it's not like they've reduced the $ for a less capable dive watch...

Supposedly the SD43 doesn't get one either. Somehow this year seems like a watershed time for Rolex -- they're really diverging from what I've always liked about them.

If they keep down this path next year we can have clown color subs, YAY!

If Rolex manages to keep being a commercial super-success in the coming decades, I bet the five digit models will be regarded as their zenith.
Sub, GMT, Explorer I and II all got significantly worse from there in my opinion (talking about design).
I think the short run 40mm ceramic SD might be peak Rolex. It combined the good modern build quality with a design that wasn’t TOO far from the five digits.

When that watch was a huge failure I realized that the vast majority of watch buys just want something expensive and shiny. I can’t fault rolex for selling what people want but it’s a bummer.

I don't get the falcon's eye thing at all (on what is otherwise a very cool watch). I never really paid attention to falcon's eye dials before, so my first thought was "is that REALLY what they're supposed to look like?" Turns out that it isn't. Maybe the Rolex version will look better IRL.

Yeah, for just about every market, what the true enthusiasts want is very niche compared to what sells...

Car enthusiasts want small analogue sports cars and V8 wagons.... while soft SUV's with tiny turbocharged engines are what sells, etc.... Porsche had to pivot to bloated SUV's to stay profitable. Pick your collector category and it is likely the same story...

I think that is wrong but I don't care too much because I always take them off and replace with spare links anyway. When I dive I wear watches under the sleeve of my wetsuit to protect them.
