Does the 36mm Exp make my wrist look fat?

Post by sierra11b » Fri Nov 24, 2023 1:39 pm

Got bored and went browsing... This is the new 36mm 124270 on my 7.5" wrist. Lovely in the flesh and I quite prefer the lacquered black dial.

I owned a 114270 back in the day but sold it... Would be nice to try the 40mm 224270 but my AD has never seen one yet.

While I think it works and am in the camp that 36mm is the quid essential Explorer size, perhaps Rolex is telling me something as it only fit with all links and the easy link deployed.

Some will say it works, but I think the 40 would be better on you....or me.

Does the 36mm Exp make my wrist look fat?

Post by Wario406 » Fri Nov 24, 2023 1:58 pm

Eric, was the clasp micro adjustment all the way out on the 36?

My 39 Mk fits my 7.5 inch wrist with all the links, the clasp adjusted to the smallest size and the comfort link closed. I open the comfort link once or twice a day, but run it closed 99% of the time. There’s at least 3/8” available with the bracelet if I move the pin on the clasp to the largest size, plus I still have another 3/8” with the comfort link.

Admittedly, I’ve not tried the 36 Rolex, but I like the 39mm size the best. My Ranger was the same size and profile and I found it a perfect wear for me too.

I’m looking forward to trying the 40mm at some point but doing think I’ll like that size. The face on my 39 is already bigger than the face on my 41 Sub.

Micro adjust had one more hole left but I didn't ask him to resize. Probably should have.

I do like the 39 MkII but really want to get a new watch from the AD at MSRP. I think one of these two models is doable as they're not red hot popular. I've always bought used or grey for a premium.

I love the 36…but for you the 40 is probably better.

PS: You should have bought one of my several 39s when I sold it for $4k in what seems like ages ago  :banghead:

Definitely too small. Definitely 40mm which is essentially op41 case.

I still think of those photos you posted of those Explorers on black natos. That just seemed like the perfect setup to me.

I should have just kept that and the 116600 I had at the same time and walked away.

I’m in the 36 camp. There is a reason Rolex brought it back and usually once they move on they never go back.

The 36 rocks on nato also.

rolex can’t make up their mind with 39/40/41/42/43.

Datejusts work 40. Completely different dial and hands (I rock the wimbeldon on jubilee). The explorer looks odd at that size.

And add a link or two to that. That’s why it looks small.

The 36 fits my 7.25 wrist without an issue. I'm also in the same camp as Todd that 36 is the correct size for the Explorer, larger than that and the balance is off.

I’m going to try to find a 40mm at my AD soon, I’d like to get this one next year hopefully.

It looks small on you. I don’t think it’s the circumstance but the shape of your wrist. I’d be interested to see a 39mm explorer on you. I think my 36mm DJ is tad small on me but when I tried a 39mm explorer it felt like a dinner plate.

Maybe one more hole out it wouldn’t look as tight?

I think it looks ridiculously small on you, but I’m not a Rolex traditionalist. “36 is the right size for an Explorer” seems to be the only reason anyone has for thinking it looks good.

I'm waiting on the 40.

Got a call today from the AD but he just wanted to tell me the Pelagos 39 was back in stock as I showed a little interest in.

I wonder what the wait time would be for the 40mm 227240?

He gave me the run around that they're hens teeth, multiple people in front of me which i'm not denying, but felt like he wanted to sell the the pelagos 39. Maybe not? i'd imagine it'll sell pretty fast without me.

214270 is pretty incredible. Interested to hear how much more you like the 227240.
