new question, service

Post by flyskate » Thu Mar 11, 2021 9:39 am

I'm contemplating the purchase of a used Omega Speedmaster 3510.50.00 cost to me is 2060.00 However, the seller states it is time for a service. My question is 2 fold. Is it worth buying at this price point knowing a service is required, and if so, a ball park on what a typical service would run. Also, any suggestions on who could do the service? Thanks, for any help!

That seems pricey for a Speedy Reduced.

Since it's a chronograph, figure a few hundred (minimum) for a service from someone reputable.

As I understand the reduced is costly to service because the Chrono module is an add on module and is essentially disposable, so the watchmaker has to replace it with a new one? I believe some indy guys will service the module, but this is likely expensive. Probably figure $600-$700. I think Omega charges $750 for all Chrono's. A lot of independents won't touch them. I agree that this seams like a lot of money for a reduced, but Omega prices have been shooting up lately so I could be off.

If you really like the size, buying a reduced and getting it serviced makes sense as you will have a trouble free out of production watch with a warranty to wear for years.

I know prices on everything have been going up, but that does sound high to me if the watch requires immediate service. And I've also heard servicing a reduced is costly because it's a modular chrono.

I've owned the Speedy reduced. It's a fine watch, but it's nothing particularly special IMHO. I'd spend the money on something else.

Damn! That is to much for a watch that will need a service.

I’ve read Speedy Pro service is very expensive as well. Part of the reason I haven’t added one as a permanent piece

Omega lists chrono service on their website at $750. Seems reasonable to me relative to other brands. Maybe not for the reduced, but for a standard Speedy it seems about right.

Not bad but too much in % of value of the watch.

I have noticed that almost every Speedmaster sold on the second hand market has an unknown service history. Lots of people buy them without factoring in the expensive chrono service. At least this guy pointed it out.

Thanks for all the replies, I'm thinking the price entry for this particular speedy is too high, I am glad the seller told me it needs a service, but I've decided to pass on this one. I'll continue looking, although, I might just pull the trigger for the new speedy coming out.
Thank you again, this is why I love this place!!

Regular Speedy Pro is much better proportioned. It wears well, but if you are concerned about size, go for the FOIS instead of the Reduced.
