Locktite on bars?

Post by jeckyll » Fri Oct 23, 2015 10:49 am

A few times now I've had the bars come loose and luckily noticed each time. Anyone use blue locktite to ensure thing stay in place?

Thanks

I wouldn't. If you must, use purple.

They are screw bars, like a Panerai.

Got it. Is purple weaker than blue?

Yes. It is made for very small screws that sometimes need to be adjusted, like in a carburetor.

Is this common with other owners? If not and it's only yours maybe they are worn and a new set is in order?

Try using tubes the the straps. The common cause of screws coming loose is the strap catching on the bar and applying friction. The strap tube will provide a smoother metal-to-metal contact which should eliminate or reduce the problem.

Thanks for all the tips:

1) Will get some purple, that makes sense and this is why I asked.
2) Ed: they come lose on the straps that are already thick and therefore pinch between the case and the bar, so when the strap is moved it turns the bar. I may try to get a needle file and thin out a few of my 24mm straps, maybe that would help.

Doxa used to ship their watches with the light Locktite product to be used with their screw pins for links, if that is of help. You could also use white Teflon plumbing tape to lock them in lightly.

To stop it happening on rubber, ream out the hole slightly with a diamond dremel tool or some such thing. It is only a small amount that needs to come out to stop it.
The bars are a touch thicker than most.

That's quick math too. You might just exceed the IQ level for Dee dub.
