Quality Canvas

Post by Rackness » Thu Sep 10, 2020 4:51 pm

With Art’s books closed. Who are the recommend purveyors of all the sexy canvas straps I keep drooling over? My searching has been turning up haveston and the like but they don’t have the same look. The closest in appearance I have found were some vintage French leather backed canvas just south of 200 bones. I would prefer full canvas for water use. Any suggestions are appreciated!

The only other canvas I can wholeheartedly recommend is Drew Canvas.

The rest are either overpriced or sloppy stitched or hard as a board and smell like chemicals.
I would definitely stay away from Alibaba specials which are sold on Amazon via Barton, Richie, Archie and a couple of other resellers.

Look up RedRockStraps on Etsy (in late September because it looks like he has put orders on hold while he relocates). Wait for RedRock, or do a search on Etsy and see if anything else catches your eye. RedRock straps I think are $70-90 range.

Barton canvas straps are more akin to a two-piece canvas nato strap than an Art or Drew strap. It’s a mass produced item but if you want a canvas nato sort of thing (little thicker than a nato strap) it will serve the purpose. Lots of colors to choose from.

Strapcode has a selection but they also look a bit mass produced. Gruppo Gammo also has options.

Vintager by Micah has nice straps, but top dollar.

The French leather backed canvas I found was from Micha. If his American full rolled canvas has the same texture and look as the French canvas I would be sold. I will check out your suggestions, thanks gents!

I never liked the leather backed canvas from Micah. They fray like crazy and look sloppy before too long.
Some guys like that extremely vintage look, but it’s not for me.

Yeah the durability of the vintage canvas is concerning to me. I wear my watches in and around water often and I feel it would be trashed pretty easy.

Art and Drew’s straps seem plenty durable in that department from what people report.

I found Drew on IG and will shoot him a PM this weekend. I may sent Art a message as well just to see if he is entertaining an new requests.

Art and Drew of course, but I'm very happy with the canvas strap that Jose made for me (CBStraps, Etsy). Perfect stitching and no fraying in the 4 months I've had it.

RedRock straps look great as well.

Love the strap I got from Diaboliq. Just make sure he’s able to ship to the U.S. before you order.

I like Micah's straps and if you have issues he takes care of you.

red rock canvas is very stiff, but durable.
all straps i have from drew and art are soft as a baby's bottom and constructed perfectly.
if you can wait for it, do.

Absolutely true.

Ideally, the best option is owning both Micah's and Art's straps.

Art's straps are indeed as good as they get from any perceptive (quality, construction, softness, durability, etc). I've been waiting well over 2 1/2 years to get two more of them, so unless I'm "special", there must be quite the wait list.

I like RedRock for smaller watches since his canvas seems to be thinner, and Micah for larger watches. Diaboliq does nice work as well.

Bit late to the party but check out CB straps on etsy. Jose does some nice work.
