Tropic question

Post by deepcdvr » Tue Jan 26, 2021 10:00 am

Anyone have any idea how much this strap is worth? Just found it in my strap drawer - doesn't look used. I'll never wear it, so might as well add $$ to my grail fund

It may well be. I was being a joker and offering $20.

Hoppy may know more about how much these OG Tropics are worth.

WatchRecon shows a vintage 20mm just sold for $95. I’m guessing that is about the market price for these

Here is a link to the sale: https://omegaforums.net/threads/straps- ... nn.123970/

Hey Paul,
Can you post up the lengths? Tail end looks a tiny bit shorter than normal (and I hope that's the case!).
Could maybe put this to use in my polaris strap collection...

Will do! It’s in my safe at work so I’ll get to it first thing tomorrow. I believe it’s short

Concur. I just paid $95 for a 20mm straight “long” ...hard to get that combo and was happy to pay that. Seen a few go around 200-300 on eBay.

Sorry, a little late to the conversation. Genuine Tropic prices vary widely. From the reasonable $100. or so like Mike paid, to the ridiculous $200.-$300. + on ebay. For some reason, 22mm versions seem to sell for a little less than 20mm ones. Probably because 20mm is a more common lug size on vintage divers.

I’m not going to lie I’m a little weirded out by using an old rubber or leather strap for some reason. I guess at least with rubber it would be fairly easy to fully clean, but it weirded me out so much that I bought a new ISOfrane instead of used the last time. I guess I’m a bit of a germaphobe. For whatever reason a properly cleaned used bracelet doesn’t both me. I don’t think I could ever wear a preowned NATO either.

Cool to see how long these old straps can last and they really seem to have some value.
