The Jury Is Out On This

Post by mattcantwin » Mon Feb 08, 2021 1:07 pm

I think the closest I've ever come to owning a Bund strap is asking people's opinion here and being told not to bother.

I decided to give one a go as part of a recent strap order.

I guess it'll come down to comfortable or not; this is a nice, soft leather - it may work out.

Verdict just came in: Not Guilty of crimes against watches.

I like it.

Going to go against the tide and say that I think it overwhelms the watch a bit. A less bulky strap might be a better option for that watch.

Thanks for weighing in. Andrew.

I have a number of other options for the BigEye if this doesn't pan out.

I personally think bund straps should stay in the 1960s. Never to return.

This watch needs a heuerville rally strap.

I bought a cheap watch from a crazy man

I tried one.....once.

That's definitely the nicest Bund I've seen though, I might actually wear that.

Here's a few pilot strap options that might work well on the Big Eye:

IWC Style Pilot Strap

Riveted Pilot Strap

I also like it on an Olive canvas strap like the one you have.

Good stuff, Andrew; thanks.

I'll have to give black leather a go.

No idea if I'll like it, but decided it was time to try one.

I like it but not that particular one. Not sure sure who makes it but the stitching is embarrassing on it

I inherited my Grandfather's watch that he wore as a paratrooper in WWII stationed in the South Pacific theater. I have this photo of him rocking it on a bund strap. The watch is tiny by today's standards but I placed it on a bund strap in his honor after having it cleaned and serviced a few years ago. It mostly sits in the safe, but the bund strap does help add a little size to the small case. I figure if a bund was good enough for the greatest generation, it is good enough for me.

BTW he is 17 in this photo.... lied about his age when he joined the service.

The bund is a style that I feel is better left in the past. I just can do it myself.
