Any thoughts on Apple’s Vision Pro?

Post by AtomicTom » Fri Feb 09, 2024 10:59 am

I’m thinking you guys have known about Apple’s Vision Pro. Or have been
hearing more about it as of late. Do you have any thoughts?

Is this something that you think we will see people wearing out there
everywhere? Or be like people’s phones are used? Or more of a device
to be used at home?

What do you think?

Not for me, but to each his own.

The older I get, the more I want to unplug.

I’ve been an Apple fanboy since the days of the IIc, but I can’t get excited by this.

Maybe if the form factor could someday be reduced to look like a normal pair of glasses, I might reconsider, but since the release I’ve found myself wondering if this is a product that Steve Jobs would have signed off on.

Guess the Apple Car is next?

I’ve seen some interesting use cases for mixed reality headsets (VR + real world), but they were all industrial or task-based in nature. For example, using these types of googles to help someone accomplish a complex task.

I’m not really seeing the home-use benefit of these right now, and especially not at $3,500.

Exciting times we live in is all I can say.
I’m sure they’ll be $500 in 5-6 years.

Yep, the company I retired from was using them to give clients a virtual walk through of facilities we had designed, pre-construction, so they could get a feel for the layout and to try out routine maintenance tasks in the facilities to ensure there was room to do the work. They also used them to have engineers remotely work with in-facility maintenance staff for repairs. Really interesting stuff, but not something I need in my life.

As usual I find myself agreeing with you guys. ;) :salute: Oh, and I didn’t even
know about an Apple car James, and Don. :o Wow, thanks for that insight !
It is always fun seeing what they will come up with next for sure. And to
be honest I like the idea of the Vision Pro, but not the price, or how big
it is. Also, so many people spend so much time on their phones already
right? ..So seeing a bunch of people walking around with these on will
just keep people from talking to each other that much more.

But I still know we will see a ton of them on people eventually. Whether
it be this version, or the Vision Pro 2, 3, 4 etc.

Thanks a ton for giving your two cents everyone !!!

Cool tech, stupid external battery pack, bad battery life, interesting potential future use cases, crazy price of a typical gen 1 product.
