yes, I still have one. I bought the parts and fixed it, I normally update it after some time with new hard disk, ram , etc.
I use it for playing games and I have stored many things there.

Very much still use one and very much prefer it. I have it in/on a nice piece of furniture, with a nice chair, upstairs and use my tablet downstairs. Almost bought a laptop several times, but this setup works fine.

I still use a desktop PC at home as the "home" pc. It houses all the thousands and thousands of family pics on on one hard drive, and it runs my Plex server with huge movie collection on another hard drive.
Dell Optiplex 9020, 7th Gen i7, 24GB ram, ATI5800 GPU, 256GBSSD (boot) 1TB HDD pics, 2TB HDD Plex.

Always a laptop at work, and had my last desktop 10 years ago, but it was a HTPC with a cable card (pre Apple TV days).

Now my son asked for a gaming PC, and I said yes under the condition that it will run a music and movies server plus home automation software.

No. Our last desktop went on the fritz a several years back and never replaced it.
We have three apple laptops(mine and I’ll never go back, my two girls who went to/are in college) and two windows based laptop (my wife and my youngest).
We never miss the desktop for what we do. No need.
Even at the office we all have laptops only
