Portable Drive Questions ....

Hi Guys, have a couple of questions regarding the following external drives.

First; not sure if needed, but this is my computer / Toshiba Tecra A50-C1543 / it has 4 3.0 USB ports

Unless you are storing a ton of movies I do not see why you would need and external drive. Do you have large files on your pc?

We bought the last option, the Sandisk, for our kid because his computer hard drive is getting bogged down with game files. Thought he could try running games off the external drive. Didn’t turn out quite that simple. I need to trouble shoot how to install a game to an external drive.

Unless you are storing a ton of movies I do not see why you would need and external drive. Do you have large files on your pc?

I use external drives to backup my laptop. The external drive stays in my office while I run around with the laptop. If I break or lose the PC, at least my data is easily replaceable.

That said, I’m not certain keeping your external drive with your PC makes a lot of sense unless, like Terry states, you are working with really large files.

My old computer is on Windows 7, and I'll be upgrading to Toshiba to Windows 10, so I'm backing everything that is on the old computer.

Would the ADATA work with the Toshiba? If yes, which adapter would I need? I'm considering the 256GB priced at $70.00 bucks.

I sent a thumb drive to a data recovery company, if I remember correctly (was a while back), it cost around $65.00.

You can back your files up on the cloud that way you have it anywhere you are. Check out onedrive bro.

I do however not leave them plugged in when not in use fwiw.

96 bucks for a 4tb is pretty damn good.

I use this same version also. It took me forever to locate a used card for them. Once I did the drive had dumped everything and only about 4gigs was usable.

Figured, I give an update: After a few days of looking at YouTube review vids. This is what my eyes gotta look like. ... ... ... I ordered a Samsung T5 500GB in Blue, and a Samsung BAR Plus 64GB flash drive, as well.

Now, I gotta figure out how to upgade the Toshiba from Windows 7 to 10. Instructions on the disk says to do two things in the BIOS, but the computer only allows me to do one. So, shit! ...

Thanks T. Office was sort of a back up. All of my documents / invoices are on Microsoft Works. It's installed on my 64-bit OS, so I'm hoping I can install it on 10, but not certain, so this is the reason for thinking about office. I won't need it right away as I still have the old computer on 7, but if time came to use 10. I figured it best that I have 10 set up now, instead of later, kind of sort a thing. This way, if I open a MSW file, I was hoping office will open it. If so, it should make an easy transition.

Is using your link better then the discs that came with the Toshiba? Is there a difference? I watched a vid, where you can change the privacy settings during the install, but thought it was an install using a disc. Once the install is done, the chance to make these privacy changes are gone.
