New Side Quest Hobby - Cologne

Post by r.palace » Mon Jul 25, 2022 5:26 am

As is typical, there are many side quest hobbies aside from this crazy hobby of ours.

I’ve indulged in a few and I consider them side quests as I don’t deep dive into them. Knives, sunglasses, flashlights are just some other hobbies I’ve dabbled in.

Recently, however, I’ve taken an interest in higher end designer fragrances and niche fragrances.

Nothing wrong with cheaper fragrances, as a matter of fact some are cult classics and I still consider Davidoff Cool Water to be one of my signature scents. One of the absolutely best for under $50.

I know some of you dudes are still spraying Joop and Drakkar Noir - anyone else looked into the higher end stuff of the hobby?

Maybe you should try the male equivalent of Vabbing.

I got into colognes for awhile from my Wet Shaving hobby. Another great rabbit hole to go down if you are bored - check out Damn Fine Shave or The Shave Nook if you are interested.

I haven't worn fragrance since I was a kid, but I remember the original Polo having a nice scent.

I have a bottle of the green RL polo. Because that’s what everyone wore in 1995.

i used to use lagerfeld aftershave, which is reasonably subtle. and it was a smell that was mostly personal. i.e., if you didn't get up in my face (like my wife or GF), you wouldn't know i was wearing it. if i ever wore anything again, it would be something like that.

but i haven't worn anything in years. pretty much all cologne is far too strong for me. and my nose is very sensitive to other people's colognes, it'll give me a headache. walking through the makeup/perfume counters in a department store are awful for me, with all the overlapping, cloying smells.

i think i've been jaded by people who bathe in cologne to cover up BO (or cigarette/ashtray stank). the only thing worse than BO is BO + half a bottle of cologne. and i used to work with a woman who thought nobody knew she smoked because she'd perfume up before coming back in. and she just smelled like a ashtray with perfume spilled into it.

Brut is god awful.

Old Spice just smells like "dad," cuz that's what so many kids in my generation got for our dads every father's day.

Wow this brings back memories.

My brother was into Abercrombie woods, he would soak himself in it everyday of high school and when we was leaving for a date.

I liked polo green and nautica. My all time favorite was nautica competition .

Me too. My mother-in-law sometimes wears a fragrance that gives me a nasty headache. I'm not sure what it is, but it reminds me Dimension Shampoo.

Also been twenty years since I wore cologne I am sure. I did like Bijan though. I think I still have a brand new in the box bottle that been in my drawer for a while. LOL

My mom got a box of Beverly Hills Polo for this past Christmas too. Still new in the box.

I have been using Givenchy Pi for the past 20 years maybe. I have no idea if that’s considered “high end” or not. Probably not since I get it from Amazon

Lol yeah either one has a nice aroma. I also like the smell of Lysol as Dave mentioned.

As for cologne (rarely worn these days) it’s either Creed Millesime or Aventus.

I've got 2 that I wear. Acqua Di Parma Colonia and Colonia Essensa. I like the citrus smell and have been wearing the original Colonia since the late 90's.
