US Navy Longine Torpedo Boat Watch

Post by River Rat » Tue May 13, 2025 1:14 pm

Been wanting one of these but most were more than I wanted to pay. They call these torpedo boat watches, Longines, Hamilton, Elgin made them just before and during WW1. I got the Longines version. It was made in 1912 and the box different than the WW1 version so a WW2 version so that tells me it was brought back into service during WW2. IT was well used. It needs a service bad the stem needs work and the movement need's a service might have the case buffed up a little. Might drop it off at my watchmaker got a small surgery tomorrow might be sore for a few days.

Can you imagine this on a PT boat in WW2 used for navigation.

My last WW1 era deck clock with USS Wando on the dial the way the US Navy on the case of the watch are a close match the way the lettering was done only a few years apart when they were made.

That’s a beautiful piece of history. Hope the service brings it back to full glory.

My goodness, Mike - your collection needs to be recognized by the Navy and/or a museum

Here is an ad for Elgin that also made a torpedo boat watch for the US Navy bought it on eBay.

And here is a WW1 era US Navy Torpedo Boat they are a little larger than the WW2 ones. This one had 29 men as crew.

Bought the ad as reference for these types of watches. You can't download photos from eBay that work in Imgur so I took a phot of it on the computer screen to post it.
