I am thinking of getting a Super KonTiki 60s or 70s - can you suggest a good source of information on these?
Super KonTiki resources?
Re: Super KonTiki resources?
MWR Forum for the ones issued to the IDF. The Omega forum also has some info on them. I have owned two an older civilian 1960's diver that I sold and a 1970's Super Kontiki Super issued IDF. Just get one with a good working crown on the 1970's ones. With age the rachet in the crown when you wind it can be a problem where it starts to click when you wind it and might brake completely where you can't hand wind it. Crowns for these are hard to find. Had to buy a used crown for 100 bucks it's off to get replaced now hope it fixes the problem. The crown is spring loaded were it pops up when you unscrew the crown a lot of parts built into the crown so no generic crown will work. So, ask about the crown and if it's in working condition before you buy that there's no clicking sound when you wind it that it changes the date, and hands move with the crown. Finding a crown like finding a needle in a haystack why I did not complain paying for an overpriced used crown. The clicking sound is when it skips and don't wind mine dose it every so often. Hopefully the replacement crown works. The 1960's ones the crowns are easier to find think the one I use to own had a none screw down crown so a generic might work so less of a headache.
