I also owned the GS Diver Spring Drive (From Wu) and it was outstanding.

I'm pretty sure that's just the polished effect with the shape of the case. My SARX has a very similar profile near the end link.JP Chestnut wrote:Does that end link fit as badly as it appears to?Seppia wrote:

It looks like a huge gap, which I've seen in person on other Seikos. I'd be surprised if GS couldn't do better though.Torrid wrote:I'm pretty sure that's just the polished effect with the shape of the case. Rolex is the gold standard for end link fit. I've never handled an SEL Rolex that didn't have bank vault solid end link fit. On the other hand, Omega's shitty fit makes removing and reinstalling the bracelet a breeze.Seppia wrote:It's a shadow.JP Chestnut wrote:Does that end link fit as badly as it appears to?Seppia wrote:
The fit is not laser like as in the new Tudors or Rolexes but it's not too bad.
I can fit a thin sheet of paper in the gap if I pay extreme attention, but even the thinnest business card would not pass.
The Seiko fanatics that say "it's better than Rolex" must be drunk or never have handled a modern Rolex in their life, but the quality is very high.
I'm no longer an end link elitist, so long as it's not visible.

Believe me, that's a new development. The 300M seemed fine over the many that I handled. The PO2500 and various old style Speedmasters, not so much.jswing wrote:My Omega end links fit great. Yeah, I had a bunch of the old ones too. The current crop is much better. They should be, Omegas cost 3X as much as they used to.JP Chestnut wrote:Believe me, that's a new development. Do they still use those little wings on the bottom of the end link to stop rotation, or are they machining the ledge into the case (like Rolex) now?jswing wrote:Yeah, I had a bunch of the old ones too. Exactly what I was talking about. I wonder why the fit has improved - closer tolerances I guess?

Maybe they're not better, and I just convinced myself they are.

Re: How 'bout some Asian Erotica
The 300M seemed noticeably tighter than the PO8500, which was worlds better than the PO2500. A cynical person may suppose that cases and bracelets are now outsourced to the same factory, improving fit. I suspect the tolerances are just tighter since they're way more willing to throw away parts given the incredibly increased prices.jswing wrote:Improved quality control in China.JP Chestnut wrote:Exactly what I was talking about. These pics are nice!
Never owned a GS but they look amazing.

Re: How 'bout some Asian Erotica
Owned many many modern Rolex and still own a 116234 on SJ. Just did the wobble test and can say it's a hair tighter than my SBGE001 but not by much and certainly not enough to get my panties in a bunch. Very similar to any modern Omega compared to Rolex.
I've never understood the comparisons, though... Like Omega, GS brings something entirely new to the table. Having owned 3 GS I will concede that Rolex is the end link benchmark, but GS is king in the watch head itself. Sorry. It's like wearing a diamond on your wrist even when it's an otherwise subtle design. The finishing is just that great. I could even tell time in the reflection it casts against the cab of my truck if there's direct sunlight (w/SBGR055). Never done that with a Rolex.
Come to think of it I've mentioned before the entire GS bracelet line needs an update. I really started to preach this when the Pelagos was first announced. The bracelets and fit are nothing short of excellent still, but a little dated when the MM300 clasp is just an impeccably finished version on the GS Diver (SBGA029 which I owned). It would really help GS and Seiko if they put some R&D toward a new line benchmark clasp designs. They have the technology...

Re: SBGR061 - A Review
I'll bump this thread up. I just bought one of these and should be arriving on the weekend. Was purchased new old stock from a dealer 4 months ago, so it gets the 5 year warranty which is nice. Near mint. The seller also had a high beat SBGH263 with the cream dial but had gold hands and arabic numerals. It was tempting but I prefer the traditional hour markers that sparkle on the GS watches so went with the lowbeat options and pocketed the difference.
