Incoming…. Seiko SLA051 Uemura

Post by hoppyjr » Fri Feb 04, 2022 11:28 am

The new one today…. Seiko SLA051. It’s the grey dial (non LE) version of the Uemura.

Hard to capture in photos, but the dial has a cool texture, as I understand it’s to capture the texture of the mountains Uemura climbed.

The bezel action is the absolute best I’ve experienced on a Seiko. The only negative is it’s a little hard to wind manually, due to the shape of the case & crown guards.

More photos as I try different straps. I really like it.

The green and red Perlon straps are the Eulit brand, new Atlantic model. The Zulu is a Maratac from CountyComm.

The shots on red Perlon were from last night in the car, so quality isn’t great.

Congrats bud. These are indeed pretty nice. Dial is something else.

Mine is back on bracelet. Need to get some of those Perlons.

Congratulations. That's a stunner.

If I'm not mistaken, it's pretty much the same size as the 6105-8110 it pays homage to. That's the one beef I have with the "WIllard"...it's a tad too small.

Thanks. It really is nicer in person, as I can’t capture it in photos. It reminds me of my first MM300, but with sapphire crystal and a more balanced feel on wrist.

I’m not sure, but it sits well when compared to the limited edition SLA033 and the “regular” Willard re-issue we all know. I owned the latter and thought it was fantastic, just not as “nice” as I’d like and I agree it felt a bit small. This one solves those issues and feels more premium. I also prefer the 20mm lugs to the 19mm on the “033”.

Here’s a good comparison video.

Congrats Ed

I know you’ve been thinking about this piece and I’m glad you pulled the trigger! I bet an Isofrane would look pretty awesome on it as well. Just get some skinny fat bars and you’ll be gtg

I’m curious as to how the 8L35 will settle in after a few weeks… hopefully you got a good one

Thanks guys.

Yeah Shannon, I’ve got the bars but plan to keep in on nylon straps. I can’t do rubber all day because my skin reacts. I don’t usually time my watches these days, but was curious how it compared to my last 8L35, so I have been. It seems about +8.5 spd, wearing it constantly 24/7 since Thursday evening. I hope it “settles” but never really had a watch so that. I’m kinda disappointed in the accuracy, as others have seen COSC results.

Yeah, that accuracy is slightly annoying. Mines been COSC. I hope it settles in for you.

Try demagnetizing it. My Marine Master (SBDX001) was running at about that rate when I first got it. After demagnetizing, it gained only a second or two per day, and it's still holding that rate 13 years later. :salute:

As soon as I find my demagnetizer I’ll give that a go. Thanks.

I had this one recently too. Wish I hadn’t traded it away. This one really is much nicer in-hand. I also liked it more than the SLA033 I had. The gray dial is nice. The texture is actually the same pattern as used on the new SLA055. Looks better in gray. Congrats on the new watch. Fwiw, it looks and works amazingly well on an Omega mesh. 👍🏻

If love to see a comparison between this and thr original 6105.
As much as I love the Willard reissue I had, it just didn’t have the same flat case that the ofotnal 6205 has. I liked it, but didn’t love it.

What is Uemura anyway?

I tried one on with the bracelet last week. I have to admit, it felt very nice on the wrist. Way better than a turtle. The polished groove on the case didn’t really bother me IRL like I thought it would. After seeing it in person, Seiko did a great job on this one
