Interesting link about some affordable 4r based auto GMT seiko 5’s coming out. Modders will do some interesting things with these.

Wow! Very cool. I wonder if the hour and 24-hour hands are independently adjustable.

Independently adjustable would be really cool, but I doubt they invested that much for this line.

I noticed that it's date only (no day), so if they leveraged the day complication to drive the 24-h hand, the 24-h hand might be independently adjustable.

I think there's an ETA GMT movement based on the 2836-2 that works like this.

there is. it comes in some of the mido's and maybe Longines watches. they are in the 800-900 price range though.

These may be using the same 4r movement if I remember correctly that was in the sharp edge gmts.

I didn’t notice that it’s date-only before. I like it even more now. We’ll, except for the cyclops.

I'm really really stoked for this. Love seiko, don't have any GMTs, and don't want to spend huge money on something. This sounds right up my alley!

This is pretty awesome…

I only have one GMT as it’s not a function I care as much about.

This is a perfect travel companion.

SSK005K1 Could be interesting 🤔 wish it had a non-sunburst orange dial, though

Sounds like it’s a “caller” movement (24h hand moves independently), at least according to the guy that runs NTH watches. Makes no difference to me.

I’m in Hawaii on a working vacation and brought a couple of watches. Diver (of course) and a quartz guy to leave set to home time so I know when to call my family. This Seiko 5 would be awesome in my opinion

Ooh nice, yowza, those really are something guys !! 8-) 8-)

So many times are looking for a GMT, but more often than not
they are a touch expensive. However, these kind of take care
of that problem, and look great doing it.

The orange really grabs you. So cool !

Thanks so much for the news !!!

I really like this model. Not a fan of the cyclops but I am sure there will be after market crystals of higher quality.

A mechanical GMT for under $500?

Picked up an orange one. I really like it, no complaints at all considering the price.

[/quote]

It was £549 GBP.
I am sure they can be picked up cheaper online - plus he is an independent Jeweller.
I thought that was steep.

I’ll have to get one of these to do a Turdle GMT mod.

That's what I was thinking. :salute: Can you drop a 4R34 into a Turdle case? Are the dimensions identical to the 4R36?
