This just in... SLA071

Post by 3migo » Sat Nov 11, 2023 2:45 pm

I posted about this model over in the Main forum when it was first announced, and ever since then I just couldn't get this model out of my head.

I've always been a fan of the older Landmasters Seiko used to make, and something about the combo of the Landmaster style, in titanium, with a blue textured dial... Really checked a lot of boxes for me.

I hit up my local Seiko dealer and they were able to order one for me and offered a good deal, so I pulled the trigger. Just went and picked it up this afternoon, and it doesn't disappoint.

The bracelet is comfortable and has a MM300 style clasp (but much thinner) with the tool less diver extension. Compass bezel is a bidirectional friction fit (no clicks). Nice and lightweight as you'd expect for a titanium watch.

That’s awesome Russ, congrats!

Is it sized like the MM300 but lighter?

As usual, the real life photos are much better than the Seiko stock images.

I'd say wrist presence in terms of lug to lug is very similar to the MM300. But it's significantly thinner and obviously lighter due to being titanium. It wears very comfortably, and the bracelet articulates nicely with shorter links compared to the MM300.

Excellent. Sounds like a winner for sure.

There is a video on line that shows it. It’s got the MM300 micro adjust feature, no dive extension, and it’s thinner than before.

Hoppy summed it up well above, but here's a few quick snaps. Unfortunately I no longer have a MM300 I can use for a side by side comparison.

As you can see, the design is very similar to the MM300. The extension functions the same way, looks the same way. Just much thinner and obviously titanium. I always liked the functionality of the MM300 clasp, but damn are they thick. ImageImageImageImage

The MM300 clasp is also titanium, just much larger.

I think it is a little easier if the watch has a GMT hand, but the process works just fine with a 3 hand watch as well.

That's a good and solid looking piece. I also like the clasp. Except the diver's (sliding) extension it reminds me my SBCM023's clasp. Wear it in good health.
