The simplest answer for me is adaptability.
I can't stand NATO straps because of the fixed hardware that I can't manipulate or move based on what I need from the strap.
The Zulus give me the ability to mount the watch anywhere along the strap, which allows me to center the buckle where it feels most comfortable OR is most accessible based upon the gear and equipment I am wearing.
I often will wear a compass or GPS attached to my ZULU strap. I have found it nearly impossible to mount either of those on a NATO as seamlessly or quickly as I can on the Zulu. At the end of the day, regardless of what I put on it, it's just a useful strap that I can put anywhere, e.g. I have secured the front license plate on my Landcruiser to the ARB bumper when my plastic mounting adapter broke.
Above all things I am consumed with multifunctional-minimalism and the Zulu appeals to me.
