The New Maen Manhattan 37 - What Were They Thinking?
I'll just throw the link out there. The caseback might be worst idea I've ever seen from any retailer anywhere.

Yeah, that is pretty dumb, not to mention offensive to probably quite a few people.
To me, a watch is a item that could be used to acknowledge a positive achievement (deepest dive, mountain summit, etc.). Acknowledging the development of an atomic weapon with a commemorative watch just seem weird.

That entire design idea seems like a head-scratcher.
Are they just trying to cash in on last year's Oppenheimer film?
Or was it, "hey, we make a watch called the Manhattan, how about we do a special project with that...what should we call it?"

Some mad genius at Maen decided a dress watch was the perfect vehicle for that message. Yikes.

I guess they weren’t going for the Japanese market.

What am I missing here? I'm not finding the text or a picture of the case back.
If you put a large switch in some cave somewhere, with a sign on it saying 'End-of-the-World Switch. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH', the paint wouldn't even have time to dry.

Ahhhhhh. Bear in mind, several of those guys honestly believed the Trinity test would ignite the atmosphere and destroy all life on earth, yet they pushed the button anyway. See Pratchett quote in my sig line below.CGSshorty wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2024 11:17 amHenryj wrote:What am I missing here? I'm not finding the text or a picture of the case back.

I completely agree. Celebrating an atomic weapon with a commemorative watch seems inappropriate and insensitive. Watches should honor positive achievements and milestones, not something associated with destruction.Ryeguy wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2024 11:23 amYeah, that is pretty dumb, not to mention offensive to probably quite a few people.

Whisky has killed more men than bullets, but most men would rather be full of whisky than bullets.

Maybe they can do one with just the Shiva quote on the back, and market it with 4 hands…
