Maranez GMT Fauxa - Doxa
Maranez GMT Fauxa - Doxa
I’m usually not super interested in clones / homages, but Maranez is putting the new Miyota GMT movement in a 300 style case with a GMT / count down bezel.
I have to admit, I prefer the look of the GMT over the Doxa version. For $300-ish, I might have to pick one up.

Their finish work is top drawer too, especially for the price. Nice find.Ryeguy wrote:I’m usually not super interested in clones / homages, but Maranez is putting the new Miyota GMT movement in a 300 style case with a GMT / count down bezel.

Interesting. Always wanted to try one of the new Miyota “real” GMTs.
Does maranez have a site? I googled but only seem to find resellers

Something to keep in mind if you’re thinking about picking up a “real” GMT running the 9075. There is no quick-set date with this movement, so if you daily drive, not a big deal. However, if it’s a watch in a rotation, and you pick it up to wear it like 2 weeks after you put it back in the watch box, you’ll have to rotate the hour hand around the dial 28 times to set the date. For GMTs that aren’t worn frequently, those running the Seiko NH34, ETA 2893-2 or Sellita SW330 are far more practical.

Interesting on the lack of the quickset date. I’m not certain it is a dealbreaker, but it certainly is a negative for that movement.
I wonder why Miyota would release a design without the quickset date given the competition all includes this feature.
Re: Maranez GMT Fauxa - Doxa
I don't find the lack of a "quickset" date any issue, same as GMT Master and many others. It takes a few more seconds sure, but not many (plus if you overshoot the date like most quick-set ones, you don't have to go all the way around again). You can also set backwards so depending on the desired date, it's only 12 rotations away max, often less.
While I understand the allure, I find the brands that copy existing designs to such extremes (well beyond homages) abhorrent and could never support them, but that's just me.

Good to know about the date function. It has been a minute since I had a watch without a quickset date.
Regarding the homage thing - I completely get it.
While Maranez as a brand is certainly guilty of creating "derivative" styled watches (and that is a generous term!), on this particular model I have less skeeviness given Doxa no longer has a GMT in their line-up and the previous GMT model looked nothing like this watch.
FWIW, Flying Doc seems to have a good relationship with Maranez. He has used parts from Maranez to repair Doxa's that are no longer in production. He has also used them to build dial color variants that Doxa does not offer (red, IIRC).

For the low price point i like to see a wabi aged old case like Doxa Clusser edition.

Chris, where did you find this? No sign of it on their website.
If you put a large switch in some cave somewhere, with a sign on it saying 'End-of-the-World Switch. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH', the paint wouldn't even have time to dry.
Re: Maranez GMT Fauxa - Doxa
I bought one of their BOR bracelets for my Synchron and am now on their mailing list.
The photo is from their email announcing a CNY sale.
I’ll update this thread when they send out an email that this model is available.
Re: Maranez GMT Fauxa - Doxa
That wabi I is only a handful of nails and a rock tumbler away.
While I wouldn’t say $300 is “cheap”, I would definitely be more willing to experiment on this than my 300T.
Re: Maranez GMT Fauxa - Doxa
It's really fantastic Chris, and some times the homages can improve on things you
or we maybe didn't care for in the watches they pay tribute to.
Plus you have a great price to boot, so it's a win win !!
Thanks a ton for
posting them up like this !!! ..They are honestly awesome !

Rumor has it that Doxa will release a GMT very soon. Doubtful it will look like their original one.

I much prefer the style of this faux-Doxa over the previous Doxa GMT.Gatorfan8894 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 03, 2025 4:39 amRumor has it that Doxa will release a GMT very soon. Doubtful it will look like their original one.
The previous version also had the issue of the paint error on some of the inner rotating bezels. I hope they have fixed that QC issue in the new release.

My guess is there will not be an inner rotating bezel like last time. New owners don’t like doing stuff that was similar to the previous era.

Re: Maranez GMT Fauxa - Doxa
I'm kinda curious about what Doxa would use for a movement. Probably Sellita which would make it a "caller" GMT.

By the way, where did you hear Doxa was considering a new GMT model?Gatorfan8894 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 03, 2025 6:38 amMy guess is there will not be an inner rotating bezel like last time. New owners don’t like doing stuff that was similar to the previous era.
I looked on the WUS Doxa forum and just a general google searching and didn't see anything.
