Very sad - my Turtle stopped working ;(
Very sad - my Turtle stopped working ;(
I really love this damn watch; wear it almost every day. Wore it all day yesterday at the beach, on a run, etc. Woke up this morning and it had stopped working at about 11:30 pm, during the day/date change. After shaking it and manually winding it this morning, it only runs for about 10 seconds or so and quits
I don't remember dropping it, but I did have a few shots of Cabo...

Update: the movement is running and when I position the watch crown up it starts up. Any ideas?

Was it own of the super discounted ones? Terry's had metal shavings in the movement.
Re: Very sad - my Turtle stopped working ;(
No idea - bought it from someone here. It's been working well so far. I have a local guy who will open it up later. I really hope it's something easy

That sucks, good luck.
Re: Very sad - my Turtle stopped working ;(
This is why I sold my turdle, after the thread on SCWF about the quality issues and all the sloppy assembly work.

Re: Very sad - my Turtle stopped working ;(
That's just strange all these stories, sorry to hear that. My skx007 ran for 15 years without service as a beater. Seems like these were rushed?
Re: Very sad - my Turtle stopped working ;(
So I shook the heck out of it and it's been running fine for about an hour. I suspect that nothing is broken, just that there is some sort of debris in the case. Sad, really.
I hear what some are saying about the quality issues but I love the 6309 and this remake (if you get a clean one) is pretty damn cool for 300 bucks. I've even started to look for a black bezel'd version.
Hope the old Chinese watchmaker down the street doesn't find too much drama when he opens the case.

It sucks seeing the issues Seiko is having right now, especially on my one of the most anticipated models to be released in a long time.
Re: Very sad - my Turtle stopped working ;(
That's a bummer Paul - hope it's an easy fix.

It's a bummer. Really tremendous watches. Although I've now had two, and the bezel action on both is really pretty terrible.

Re: Very sad - my Turtle stopped working ;(
That sucks. I have 2 and other than running a bit slow, the bezel and alignment are perfect.
Re: Very sad - my Turtle stopped working ;(
That sucks! I've been wearing mine nearly daily since I got it earlier this summer - surfing, paddle boarding, running, etc. So far, so good, but the rotor does make more noise than I am used to for a Seiko.
Let us know the verdict please.

I didn't hear of this thread, nor did I experience any issues with the NAFT's that I owned.BBK357 wrote:This is why I sold my turdle, after the thread on SCWF about the quality issues and all the sloppy assembly work.
I hope it's a quick & easy fix Paul.

Let me know if you need a hand. It might be just a dirty mainspring.

Sorry to hear that. I have three and all work perfectly. So far, anyway.

I hope you get it sorted, Paul. You taking it to the same guy who fixed the submarine-impacted U1? I seem to remember that making for an entertaining post.

Feel your pain! Mine went 4 times on a trip to the Portuguese service centre and this last time they decided to send it on a long term vacation to the Spanish service centre...It's been on a month and a half road trip and I haven't the slightest idea when it gets home...hope yours is an easier fix!

Re: Very sad - my Turtle stopped working ;(
Hey Paul, I hope your watch repair man can handle it. I had a similar problem with a Seiko 5 and it ended up being some sort of debris int he movement, once cleaned out and hand turned the hands several times and kept on shaking, it eventually worked well. I did it myself without taking the movement apart, so hopefully yours is something similar.
Another potential option is if the spring balance spring got tangled up, I have read of that and that would also be a easy problem to fix.
Short of that, you can get a new movement and replace the old one. I have seen them on sale and that should not be a great expense either. Heck if it comes to that you might even consider getting the next one up, 6r15, same as the Sumo. But I hope the solution is simpler.
Good luck.

Re: Very sad - my Turtle stopped working ;(
^^^ If you go the 6r15 route, pick up a Sumo dial too. The 6r15 is date only and the Sumo dial is a nice upgrade IMO. Check out Mark's (I think - I may be mistaken on ownership) mod to see a Sumo dial in the NAFT case.

The thread was referenced on here at some point.... Basically showing the inside work and flaws.
But hey if it works it works.. But it just seems like Seiko pushed these MF's out the door and knew money was gonna come in regardless.

Re: Very sad - my Turtle stopped working ;(
Good info on this thread - I like Marks mods as well, but also like this one just the way it is.
Anyway, my watchmaker - who has the bedside manner of General Patton - proclaimed in pseudo English that there was absolutely nothing wrong with my watch. He opened it up, blew a quick shot of nitrogen he has via a hose and bottle in his work area and invited me to look inside but "don't lean over watch!". Lol His overall assessment of large assembly line watch quality is "something something shit". I didn't understand the first two words.
Good dude.
Anyway, I didn't see anything fly out of there and it seems to be working ok? Now I'm going to be afraid to trust it (hate that); but I'm not going to send it anywhere to get repaired unless it acts up again.
Thanks everyone
