Toxic Comes Through For an Old Vet

About 2 months ago, my 85-year old father, a Vietnam vet from 1965-66 with over 400 combat missions over the North and South, approached me about selling his Rolex DJ, which he bought at the PX while over there. It was beat up, scratched and keeping terrible time, and he didn’t want to spend the money that Rolex would charge to service it (and they wouldn’t anyway, as it is more than 50-years old). I told him I would take care of it. Selling it was not an option.

Long story short-ish, I reached out to Terry and asked if he could take care of it, which he said he could. We got the watch back yesterday, and my father was almost in tears and was so happy. The watch looked great and Dad was timing it to the atomic clock and bragging about what great time it was keeping. I just wanted to reach out and express what a great job T did and what it meant to my father.

Link is photo of Dad at his graduating class in front of the plane he flew. Large number of his missions were CAS to downed aviators—high risk, low and slow. More than half the men he flew with were KIA. If you detect a little pride here in him, there is.

Oh and if anyone is wondering we did not get rid of the history (scratches on it). Just a fresh movement service, gaskets, and new crystal. It is an incredible piece for what it has been thru.
