If the 8 weeks CDC recommendation to cancel all large gatherings stands I'm assuming Churchill Downs will postpone the Kentucky Derby, and all events leading up to it. Needless to say that's a huge event in my city.

I've heard they're looking into possible June and/or September dates already.

Europe at first did not take it seriously like us in the USA now look at what they are dealing with. Here a sad story I read about Italy a guys sister got it and was in her 40’s she died they lived in the same house. No body would pick her body up every place he called were afraid due to the virus. It took social media to shame them for his sister to be taken care of kind of a sad story . 2-4 days having your dead sister in your house were no one cared imagine what he went through . I also read that mortuaries are full and news papers just full of obituaries pages of them. It only started with a few case and now look at it. Why will we be any different why won’t it spread like Europe ? This is serious shit. Only time will tell.

All of Vail ski resorts are closed for the next 2 wks. I bet most, if not all, will remain closed for the season. My wife's church is also closed in conjunction with the county schools.
My son is in kindergarten and will be doing remote learning for the rest of the month. I guess that means one of us will be staying home since we have no family in the area. My wife and I are expected to show up to work as usual. It'll be interesting to see how this country's pay check to pay check lifestyle impacts their ability to stay home from work.
My wife and I are planning on splitting the day, each working part at work and part at home. We are lucky to both have fairly flexible workplaces.

I remember 10+ years ago, when we visited Italy with our Italian (then 82 y.o.) Aunt. One of her elderly female family members was at a hospital sharing a room with an older gentleman. They were only separated by a thin, almost see through curtain. The set up at that time was way below US standards. My wife and I were questioning if the sick in these hospitals had a fighting chance.
It's a beautiful world! Gerald.

Dude, Californium a governor just punked our whole state with bars, breweries and wineries closed. I’ll give you restaurants though. Our are still open .

I went to a South Korean hospital in the early 2000's. It was an eye opener on how bad it was.

You have to keep an open mind that many other parts of the world don’t put as much effort into appearance as the US. It might look like heck (to you), but still have great doctors and acceptable equipment.

Still get take out from Canlis. Mark and Brian are doing it right. To bad this happened so soon. I wanted to take advantage of the Mets 2 for 1.

Me too. I suspect they’ll extend.

Good to know. Is Canlis doing lunch?

I think the boys are doing burgers for lunch drive through.

Had dinner with former GM of met last night. Her and Edie both worked for consolidated back in the day. We were talking about taking advantage of the promotion too.

Not a whole lot political about a pandemic.
The only thing vaguely political I can show about this outbreak are the numerous photos of the long lines of young people heading into bars this weekend.

The reality is social distancing for the 20-something generation is an altruistic act. Them doing what it takes to stay healthy is really only to keep them from clogging the healthcare system.

For a generation that traditionally leans very liberal (even socialist to the Bernie supporters), this attitude seems incredibly selfish. So much for those values.

Not sure how a virus knows the difference between a brewery and a restaurant. That said, while we generally don’t eat out much, my wife and I decided to start ordering takeout a lot more to support our locally owned restaurants and tip very well to the server that is there to ring up the food. It has to be a nightmare scenario for the owners and servers.

We had a dozen girls over our house of Friday for my daughter’s 13th birthday. We ordered take out from my daughter’s favorite burger joint and I gave the cashier a 20% tip.

I agree we need to do our best to support local restaurants with take out orders if we can. Those guys will be hit hard by this.

Actually, burgers at my personal backyard tiki bar sounds pretty good right now.

Are you sure this is a vaccine or are you talking about the anti-viral medication I mentioned earlier?

https://www.nih.gov/news-events/news-re ... -19-begins

Never mind - just found it. Very early stages, but looks promising.

I'm still thinking the vaccine might be a year away (at least for lower risk demographics), but if remdesivir works to lessen the symptoms and make the virus less likely to cause significant injury to the lungs or death, then I'm glad to have several options.

My guess is remdesivir will be released more quickly (4 to 6 weeks) as it has been more thoroughly tested.

You sure post a lot of very aggressive political stuff for someone who regularly whines about others making stuff political.
If you think that is aggressive, you need to stay out of the sun or you’ll melt.

depending on your age and financial situation, great time to buy stocks. IMO when this subsides they will come back just as hard as they declined.

Yes, APPLE is a good buy right now, as are airline stocks like United. A year from now you'll like your returns
