Sepp, just a 6’ bed extended cab....very common where I live. Winters drive 4wd. I am a construction subcontractor, meaning I supply furniture and equipment to laboratories. I have been known to haul material to job sites, sample cabinets to architects, etc. Plus, we have a camper we pull. Once you have a pick up truck I can’t see going back. I fill that bed with all kinds of stuff. Wonderful to go get a load of mulch for the yard and not even worry about it.
No kidding.
I have had to use my dads old work truck almost every weekend for the past 2 months. Hauling lumber for kids fort, many trips to lumber yard. And 2 trips for mulch and 1 trip for fill dirt.

I don't even use my truck for work, but I'll never be without one again, the bed is used all the time for sports gear, yard stuff etc.
My Ranger is an extended cab with 6' bed too, but the Silverado seems much bigger.

Honestly, that’s the case with 99.99% of people I know that own trucks. Including myself. The thing I miss most is sitting up and being able to throw whatever in the bed and just go.CGSshorty wrote:You should see the size of the trucks my coworkers drive. It’s hilarious. Where you live, I get that. Here, it’s +- hour between major metropolitan spaces, heavy snow in winter, and I need to haul stuff. It’s always funny seeing some goofball loading 8’ 4x4s in his civic at Home Depot . The four door is because I entertain clients. States are just different. I’d be an early adopter of an all electric truck should the tech support use rurally with all the requisite infrastructure, but that isn’t a reality yet.Seppia wrote: ↑Thu May 28, 2020 10:31 pmIt totally makes sense since he’s moving stuff so often.
But I never understood the downtown accountants driving a massive F350 with six wheels. I mean anybody can spend the money as they please but it seems brutally inefficient to me.
The most amazing thing is that we’re now starting to see F150s here in Italy, in the cities!
Our roads are very narrow, gas is $7 per gallon and the normal parking spot is a good 30% smaller than the average American one (a BMW 5 series is already hard to park), which makes this kind of purchase uniquely idiotic here.

Great truck. My Dad is a contractor and drove nothing but Silverado's since the mid 70's.... until recently when he traded his Chevy in for a lightly used twin turbo F150 as he bought a larger camper. That truck ate it's transmissions and timing chain the first month he owned it.... luckily he bout the extended warranty.
I'm lucky enough to have a next door neighbor who "time shares" a beater truck with me for weekend projects.
Re: What do you drive???
I had to drive a 9 passenger van (drove my family and my parents for a wedding) in Ireland last June. That was a real chore. I would not want to do that everyday (I remember having a new level of appreciation for those tour bus drivers.). It was less “driving” and more of simply avoiding stone walls and hedges. Wing mirrors were either feeler gauges or folded in.Seppia wrote: ↑Thu May 28, 2020 10:31 pmIt totally makes sense since he’s moving stuff so often.

For me, the Tacoma-size truck works. Big enough to haul around my surf boards and gardening supplies, small enough to park.
I like the idea of a full size truck, but I can’t justify the extra utility versus the extra costs of ownership.

Re: What do you drive???
My back seat is basically a parcel shelf, but that's ok, I can take my wife's car if I need to move people. My last truck was a regular cab work truck, and having no back seat at all was a pain in the ass at times. The Silverado extended cab is actually roomy for people, which is nice.demer03 wrote:Where you live, I get that. Re: What do you drive???
It's manual; apparently that's recommended for towing - not yet got a tow bar fitted, but planning on it. How did you find it? So far so good for me, plenty of space for the dogs, very easy to drive.tattoo chef wrote: ↑Sat May 30, 2020 9:27 pmLeased one of these for 3 years. Re: What do you drive???
Honestly, we never had any issues with it. We drove it a lot and it served its purpose. I didn’t care for the CVT transmission, though I did get used to it’s quirks. It was underpowered though, but we were able to keep up on the highways and it did always give us great gas mileage.poppydog wrote:It's manual; apparently that's recommended for towing - not yet got a tow bar fitted, but planning on it. Thanks Hop, still doing part-time until the end of term, then planning on two days per week from September. Hopefully lockdown will be relaxed enough to make use of the car and have days out in the hills with the dogs.

Re: What do you drive???
It says 4x4: knob in the centre console has settings 2wd, auto (rear wheels kick in when needed) and 4x4i lock. I had originally planned on a proper 4x4 pick-up, but since the main use will be travelling to the hills with the dogs, I was apprehensive about them being in the rear with no air-con in the summer etc. This was a pre-reg' car (Nov '19) with 29 miles on it when I picked it up, so basically brand new, and with a great discount.tattoo chef wrote: ↑Sat May 30, 2020 9:43 pmHonestly, we never had any issues with it.
