This all reminds me how much I hate dealing with Rolex/Tudor AD's. Reached out to mine to reserve one and they want me to drive across town (2 hrs round trip) to even discuss it with their "Tudor Specialist". What bullshit. Just want to buy a watch. Seiko/Omega dealers actually want to sell them to you.
Wow! That's crazy, my AD told me when one comes in, it's mine. Is there another AD in your town?

From my perspective, Tudor deleted the features of the Pelagos that made it special (HEV, cool / over engineered clasp, beyond the norm depth rating) but shaved only $300 off the price tag.

So, it seems, this watch is targeted at the market who want a "tool" style dive watch and are unwilling to wear a watch above 40mm. I've got to think that is a fairly narrow market, but what do I know?
It is not a narrow market. They came out with a 39mm because they did their research. 39mm is a very popular size these days, I see it all over social media, comments on my reviews etc. There is a decent sector of the watch community that want smaller watches. I personally prefer 41-42mm, but I know 39mm is now a sweet spot for many. I see these selling really well.

Like I said, what do I know.

I'm just saying I would've paid the extra $300 if they could've included the features they took off the full size Pelagos and still kept it 39mm.

The removal of these features makes the watch a bit more "fashion" and a bit less "function", but that is probably the market direction as well.

From a business perspective, I'll bet there is more profit in this new model as well as the removal of the full-size Pelagos features requires less case machining, less complicated clasp parts, and less involved Q.C. testing (200m versus 500m water resistance testing).
The OG clasp is BIG. While I don’t doubt it was downgraded, I see the logic in fitting a more compact clasp on a watch that’s clearly meant for people with small wrists.

I've got a SubC and I'm probably getting one. And I have an FXD. Who knows how it'll play out long term, but I'm going to give it a try, assuming i like it in person. To me the case/bracelet being ti make it different enough from the Sub, plus I'll likely wear it on rubber a lot of the time. Of course, this is coming from someone who used to own 6 Panerai that were nearly identical lol.

I moved my regular Pelagos and am standing in line for FXD. My AD texted me to come look at the Pelagos39. I’ll reserve my final opinion until I see it tomorrow but I suspect I will continue holding out for FXD. You never know of course :)

Curious to hear your thoughts. I would think 39 would be small for you? It's probably the "correct" size for me, although if I do buy one it would be my smallest watch currently. I love my FXD and was kind of hoping for a black FXD, but a Pelagos black no date that I can wear on bracelet and rubber is hard to pass up.

FXD is a dream on the wrist… Yes if it’s true 39 it’d be small but it’s 39.7 so it’s cutting close. Although I like my 62mas SLA and it’s only 39… I’ll circle back with my thoughts 👍

The smaller clasp and narrower bracelet are probably the primary reasons I’d swap my 2-liner for this new one.

And FWIW, though it seems to be an oddly polarizing issue for some, I’m a fan of the sunburst finish. Looks great.

I also have no problem with matte on matte, as I obviously changed my Sea-Dweller in this direction, but I also don’t think that all watches need to be exactly that…

All original. Tudor made a brief run of round marker snowflake subs. I was lucky enough to score one all original with receipt from a jeweler in Switzerland. I stupidly sold it to Wu, who sold it maybe a year ago to someone. Don’t know who, he wouldn’t tell me.

21mm lugs…. WHY?????

Do these companies just choose to ignore that most people want to change bracelets for straps occasionally? I mean really… so frustrating.

I don’t know. I’m really leaning towards BB58 over this. The grey looking dial ruins it for me.. and 21mm lugs was just a dumb move.
Heck, maybe the dial looks more black in real life. I’ll try to stop by my AD soon. My last visit there I saw multiple BB58 and other models. Not a big watch scene here.
I’d like to know the weight. I keep forgetting about Ti, I’m a sucker for Ti.

Or I’ll just fly out to CA and rob Wu of my old sub…

My plan had been to get a BB58 as my very last watch once I retire, which isn't so far away now. Need to pluck up the courage to sell some of my other watches just to start the ball rolling as I can't just find the cash for a BB58. Anyway, I preferred but decided against a Pelagos because of its size. Now this 39mm appears and like many have already said, it's near perfect. I've not even seen a BB58 or Pelagos yet so deciding is a bit irrelevant right now but this new one has got me thinking. Do you think Tudor will make a blue version?

The BB58 is somewhere between 130 and 140 grams depending on bracelet links. Reportedly the Pelagos 39 is somewhere between 100 and 110 grams.

Tried one on and placed an order this morning. Wears just a tad larger than my BB58 due to the beefier bezel. Looks great in person. Photo with my Speedy for comparison.
