I took my son and some of his friends out for a sight seeing trip to the Isle of Shoals yesterday. One of the little islands always has seals on / around it and is a fun spot for the kids to "ooh" and "ahh" over them.
One kid asked if I thought there were any sharks in the water and I said I absolutely guarantee there are. Where there are seals, there are sharks.
His eyes got about as big as saucers at that comment. I probably traumatized him for life.
Interestingly, I was fishing in the surf at dawn yesterday and saw 4-5 sharks come in very close. One of them was like a missile going through a bait school. I have never seen them so close at the Jersey Shore. Makes you realize you never really know what’s in there and we as humans are just visitors to their home.
My wife is a marine biologist who studies sharks and sawfish, so if you want to check out some of her pictures/science stuff, here is the link to her facebook.
