Electric razor for the head?

Post by hobbit712 » Wed Jul 12, 2023 4:29 am

I have been contemplating buying a dedicated head shaver and though I would ask the collective their opinion.

I have been shaving my head for a very long time. I have to shave daily for work and I will shave the head every second day also. Since going to a 5 day a week schedule in December I have to shave the skull 2 or 3 times a week. Previously while on the 12 hour shift it was not quite as frequent.

I have seen a number of ads popping on social media lately for the dedicated head shaver. Amazon currently has a Remington on sale for Prime days. It get good reviews but it is designed only for the head as it has 5 shaving units on it. Its not really designed for facial use.

So I thought why not try a dedicated facial unit and also try it on the noggin. Has anyone given that a try?

Costco current has a top of the line Philips Norelco on sale. Its looks to be a great deal. $50 bucks off and an extra set of blades.

I don’t know anything about shaving the head, but I’ve seen these a few times.

Are you going for a smooth look or for stubble?

I’m a stubble guy and use Wahl clippers with a #1 / 1/8” guard on the ol’ noggin.

In the winter I’ll use it on the entire head & face for that tennis ball look all the girlies (except my wife!) dig.

I just use my beard trimmer with no guard and shave it. It’s not down to bare skin though, it’s like Jason Stathom shaved head. I used to shave it to the skin but it gets so much irritation unless it go through a whole process of gels and creams that I just stopped.

Electric razor for the head?

I’ve tried a few electric razors on my head and they work but it takes a long time. Now I use a Leaf shaver on my head with our soap shave bar and get far fewer cuts on my head than when I was using the Gillette 5-blade razor.

I use the Braun 9 which you can get at Costco pretty reasonably. Works great on face and head for me. Shave head every other day or so with it.
If I use a blade it’s Headblade

Six replies, and this hasn’t gone the “usual” route. It’s getting weak around here #terrysballsack

My thoughts exactly!

I had only one response yesterday. I check this morning and saw 7 responses and my first thought was that Terry, Ben or Hoppy had decided to join the party. :neener:

And since mother nature was kind enough to stop growing hair on the top I usually go for the smooth look. I might be able to live with the almost smooth look if the razor cuts close enough.

The Braun is a foil type correct? I didn't think it would work as well as a rotary style.
