King Seiko 56KS

I'm not typically a vintage guy, and I almost bought a new King Seiko last week, but when I compared what the new vs the vintage offered, the vintage was a no brainer with it's hi beat chronometer movement. This is a 5625-7041 from 1974, is in near NOS condition, and was recently serviced, keeping chronometer time still at +2/day, and even passed a pressure test with new gaskets installed. The 60s and 70s were an interesting time for Seiko, as the King Seiko and Grand Seiko brand factories competed against each other to see who could produce the most accurate movements, something current day Seiko doesn't seem overly concerned about. I think it's going to be a fun addition.

Prices are all over the place - I saw non chronometer versions that weren't in such good shape for as low as $500, and chronometers like mine (but not in as good shape) over $2k. Mine fell right in the middle.

I have my FILs LM 5206-6020 which was one of the models before this one although doesn't say hi-beat on the dial.

Needs servicing and i've been putting it off forever... Not sure if anyone has the know how as the 5206 movements quick set date is fragile and that's currently part of the problem.

I think the issue with the quick set date is a small plastic wheel that can wear down or break. Have you spoken with Jack at IWW or Spencer Klein?

It's 36.6 x 42 x 11 thick. So probably too small for you! Wears like my 36 Explorer.
