-42mm in diameter measuring straight across 9:00 to 3:00.
-Cushion design, but different from the Seiko 6105 and different from Doxa. Shooting for a design that takes the best from both styles.
-20mm lug width.
-Crown at 4:00.
-Hooded lugs.

D, how about caseback? I'm thinking slightly recessed, kinda like the way Seiko did on the 6105 or at least a slimmer caseback (think 750T??). The 5000T has a thicker caseback, which works great for me, but as far as appealing to the masses, maybe slimmer or recessed would be great.

A slim/low profile case back would be nice. I think that would work especially well with this case size.

What type of materials & finish are we talking?

I assume SS due to cost (Ti would be cool but too much $$ probably), but are we going with full brush, partial, blasted, dlc ... etc.?

The finish may be determined by the finalized design of the case. I prefer brushed. Depending on the design of the case, it might be cool to do brushed and polished. It might be possible to offer blasted as well.

As far as lug size goes, I think the proportions would be more "classically correct" for a 42mm case to have 20mm lugs, but we can play with the design there as well.

I understand classic might be 20mm. But who says we can't be different. You also want to look at your market, and more people are going to have 22mm straps laying around.

Rule of Thumb: Lugs should be half of the 9-to-3 dimension. In this case, that works out to 21mm. So I think it is a toss up between 20 and 22, with my preference going to 22mm.


Course that's just abstract rules of thumb. In the end, it will depends on the aesthetics of the actual watch.

I like it as described. Not too big and the 20mm lugs are in keeping with the vintage nature of the shape.

To get the ball rolling a bit I made up a case model based on the dimentions in Dereks first post. Only difference is 22mm lugs.

That looks awesome Graeme! That is almost exactly what was in my mind. I keep trying to come up with a unique profile design for the side of the case that doesn't look goofy but makes the case unique.

Like a crease along the center or something - similar to the brushed section on the side of the Seiko Marinemaster case perhaps.
